Small Businesses Need Mobile Friendly Websites

 

You may recall an older post I wrote, Mobile Friendly Websites Rank Higher on Google. If not, you may want to read that article and then come back to this one. While looking at a couple of my favorite brands on my iPhone, I noticed some websites come up without a problem, while others would take a bit longer.

 

As many of you may recall, Google released a significant new mobile-friendly ranking algorithm in April 2015. This algorithm was designed to give a boost to mobile-friendly web pages in their mobile search results.

 

A year later, there was a lot of talk about Google updating their mobile-friendly algorithm to make page speed a ranking factor for mobile-friendly websites. If your site is currently doing well with page ranking and visibility in regards to mobile searches, depending on your mobile-friendly page speed, this may or may not be the case in the near future.

 

This isn’t much of a shock considering we have not only seen, but most likely have participated in, the trend when it comes to mobile searches continuing to rise and consume a large portion of searches being performed over the past few years. Google is simply following through and doing what they have always claimed to do, to provide the best user experience possible when someone performs a search.  

 

That said, it’s more important now than ever to move forward with a mindset of “how we can best serve our customers and audience, not sell to them”. Whether it’s providing or breaking down content in such a way that it’s easier to access and navigate on your mobile-friendly website or app, the main goal is to ensure users can browse your products and services with ease from their preferred device.

If a new potential customer was looking for a specific product or service, what sort of impression would they get about your company if they see a popup warning when they clicked on your website? Would they know what that really means? Could they possibly be left with an impression that your website is not safe in some way? Just how many people would close a popup warning and still click on your website after seeing that and being returned back to the search engine result pages? I’m guessing not many.

 

Considering the number of people using their cell phones as a way to connect with businesses and local services, this sort of warning may potentially impact the number of customers and visitors to your website. As competitive as the market may be for small businesses, making sure you have a mobile friendly website is definitely a must.
